A solvent is a liquid (gas, or solid) that can dissolve solids, liquids or gases (gases, or solids) (solvents and solutes can be solids, liquids, gases) and then become solutions. The most common solvent in daily life is water. Organic solvents are organic compounds that contain carbon atoms. Solvents usually have low boiling points and are volatile. Or it can be removed by distillation, leaving the dissolved. Therefore, the solvent cannot react to the solute. They have to be inert. Solvents can be extracted from mixtures of soluble compounds. The most common example is brewing coffee or tea in hot water. Solvents are usually transparent, colorless liquids, and most of them have unique odors.
